Hard-switching 600 V, 15 A TRENCHSTOP™ IGBT3 Discrete copacked with full-rated external free-wheeling diode in a TO-220 Full-Pak package, leads to significant improvement of static as well as dynamic performance of the device, due to the combination of trench-cell and fieldstop concept. The combination of IGBT with soft recovery emitter controlled diode further minimizes the turn-on losses. This concept of a synchronous and seamless buck-boost regulation provides a very efficient solution for circuits where the output (load) voltage is on the same level as the input voltage, e.g. in short chains with 2 to 3 high power LEDs or laser diodes connected to a 12 V electrical system.

The IC is designed to supply off-board systems, for example sensors in powertrain management systems under the severe conditions of automotive applications. Therefore, the IC is equipped with additional protection functions against reverse polarity and short circuit to GND and battery. With supply voltages up to 45 V, the output voltage follows the reference voltage applied at the adjust input with very high accuracy. The reference voltage applied to the adjust input can be down to 2.0 V and is able to drive loads up to 150 mA while the device follows the reference voltage (e.g. the 5 V output of a main voltage regulator) with very high precision.

The new regulation concept implemented in TLS810B1 combines fast regulation and very good stability while requiring only a small ceramic capacitor of 1 μF at the output. The tracking region starts already at input voltages of 2.75 V (extended operating range). This makes the TLS810B1 also suitable to supply automotive systems that need to operate during cranking condition. The controller offers flexible phase assignment between the two loops and can be configured in any of the following ways: 8+0, 7+1, ... ,4+4.

The XDPE12284C controller utilizes digital technology to implement all control functions, providing the ultimate system solution in terms of flexibility and stability.
